About: Prof. AKM Zmanul Islam Bhuiyan MBBS. FCPS (Surgery) MS (Urology), an eminent Urologist in the country has been working now as a Professor of Urology at Green Life Medical College.
After obtaining FCPS in Surgery from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1992, he worked as Resident Surgeon and thereafter Consultant in Casualty Surgery. Then he became Senior Consultant (Surgery) & worked in many tertiary-level hospitals in Bangladesh.
He obtained MS Degree in Urology in 2000 from Dhaka University and became Associate Professor (Urology) in 2004. He then started working at the National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology (NIKDU), where he developed the department of Urology from Cystoscopy to renal transplant level.
He started Laparoscopic surgery in Urology & got Maj. Gen (Rtd) Siraj Jinnat Memorial Gold Medal for contribution to Laparoscopic Urology. At the National Institute of Kidney Disease & Urology, he worked in the capacity of Asso. Prof., Professor & finally Director of that Institute- a tertiary Hospital for Kidney & Urological disease in Bangladesh. He started MS (Urology) Course in NIKDU. He was involved in teaching MS (Urology) Students.
He was appointed as Director cum Professor of Urology in 2011 and worked up to January 2015.
He guided many thesis & dissertations of MS and FCPS courses & done many research works. He has published 28 articles in recognized Journals.
He is an expert in Open, Laparoscopic & Endoscopic Urological operations including Renal Transplants. He is also involved in teaching students at the undergraduate & postgraduate levels. He is an examiner of FCPS (Urology) at the Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons (BCPS) and MS (Urology) at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and Dhaka University. He is a thorough gentleman taking the utmost care of his patients and students.
