About: Dr. Istiaq Ahmed (Dipu) graduated from Dhaka Medical College in 1998. He joined in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) in May 2003. Thereafter he worked in Upazilla and District level hospital of Barisal division for about 3 years. In 2006 he started working in the cardiac surgery department of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). He obtained MS (Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery) in January 2009 from NICVD under the University of Dhaka.
He became a resident surgeon (RS) in cardiac surgery of NICVD in 2011. He was promoted to Assistant Professor (Regular) in 2003. He started running an independent cardiac unit in March 2015. Thereafter he was chosen and transferred to Dhaka Medical College on November 2016 to develop and start a new cardiac surgery department. He successfully accomplished the goal and started a new cardiac surgery department in July 2019. He is the founder and chief cardiac surgeon of DMCH. He created history by performing the first ever open heart surgery of DMCH on 10th July 2019. Now it’s a well-established cardiac Centre performing all types of cardiac surgical procedures successfully. Meanwhile, he was promoted as Associate Professor in 2017 and became head of the department (HOD). By this time, he trained at Fortis Escorts Heart Centre (New Delhi) (Fellow WHO) and Medanta the Medi city (Haryana- New Delhi).
